The ABRS Team
Allen Berg - President & Chief Instructor
Allen Berg is a retired* professional race driver from Calgary, Canada. His experience includes Formula One, Formula Two, Formula Three, Formula Atlantic, Sport Prototypes and Touring Cars.
In a world where numbers rule Allen Berg won a remarkable 25% of all the races he entered during a 25-year driving career! His personal experience, gained in driving and running his own team, Scuadra Fortia in the North American Toyota Atlantic Series gave him a thorough understanding of how the business of modern motor racing works. Berg also acted as in administrative capacity in organizing the very popular Formula Renault racing series in his home country,
Berg, who ranks among Canada's top international stars, won the Formula Pacific Tasman Championship, won at Silverstone against Ayrton Senna and Martin Brundle in perhaps the greatest year ever in British Formula 3, and qualified for nine starts in F1, a record bettered among his countrymen only by Gilles and Jacques Villeneuve.
Berg's business and teaching experience includes co-founding a racing and high performance driving school, which meant designing school courses and authoring their content, coordinating all technical logistics, selecting and training support instructors as well as taking on Chief Instructor duties himself.
For three years Berg was the Chief Instructor for BMW Mexico in their "Fahrer Training" program, and prior to that, worked as Instructor for the Derek Daly Racing Academy, Skip Barber Racing School, and the Mosport Racing School. He also served as Chief Instructor for the Calgary Sports Car Club in its basic competition license school, where he oversaw the instruction and evaluation of up to 70 drivers per program.
The 50 year-old Berg also has significant experience working as individual race driving coach and technical consultant for a number of professional drivers and teams. That service encompasses trackside observation, interfacing with race engineers and drivers in technical debrief sessions, developing and assisting drivers in advanced driving techniques, mental imaging, visualization, and physical conditioning. His work often includes analyzing and interpreting driver-related channels on on-board data acquisition systems. The goal, as always, is the ongoing improvement of driver and team performance.
Most recently Berg has worked in the administration of racing series including event organization, negotiations with circuits and promoters, FIA procedures and regulations, transport logistics and customs, and marketing.
His newest effort is to bring a world-class formula car driving school to southern California. His Allen Berg Racing Schools operation has a new home at the Auto Club Speedway in San Bernardino County. "We are very excited about bringing our school to Auto Club Speedway," said Berg. "We're committed to offering the best formula car training in the best equipment. And, now being able to do that at one of racing's premier facilities is opportunity that we take very seriously."
*"re-purposed" driver might be a better word here … Berg's unique ability to explain driving technique and respond to students at all skill levels is the hallmark of his teaching program.
